Title: Lines on my Face website
Artist:
Nibs van der Spuy
Producer: Nibs and Angus Kerr
Studio: River Forrest Studio
Label: Wildebeest

Nibs' solo album has been waaay overdue. Pulling off his meticulous compositions requires serious effort and plenty studio hours so I guess that's not surprising. The emphasis is on the acoustic guitar with a few vocal tracks and loads of friends adding their touch on various tracks including: Ken E Henson, Chris Letcher, Nux Schwartz, Danny Dewet, Dave Birch (who also produces one track), Angus Kerr (co-producer) and the boys from Landscape Prayers. Nibs has also chosen to include covers of three other guitarists who have influenced him over the years - Duane Allman, Steve Morse and Nick Drake. Lyrically a little too sentimental, although Nibs' sincerity and character do go a long way in spite of his not being the strongest of voices. A couple of the tracks could also have had a little more time spent getting them right in terms of fret buzz etc., but songs like 'Juanita', 'Lines on my Face', 'Chevin Grange', 'Skeleton Coast and Drake's 'Road' really have come out beautifully. oh yes and this is one of the best CD covers I've seen in a long while, complete with pencil!
