Title:
Afrocentric I think this is really going to do well. Jimmy has stuck to his guns with the smooth shit and really produced a corker. Possibly the best of the best of henchmen in pianist Mark Fransman, taking things just that bit outside the conservative to really lend cred to the often diluted genre that is smooth jazz. Loads of zaba scoobie scoo doobie - tight percussion laid down in the bass pocket with Frank Paco, Fana Zulu and Lucas Khumalo punctuated by those horn stabs courtesy of messrs. Moreira and - cool break - back into poppy guitar lead melody. I particularly like the opening track and then also track 3 'River of Lost Dream' a tribute to Moses Molelekwa with dialogue by Duma Ndlovu and featuring Hugh Masekela. And just when things are going all middle of the road you get shifted up a gear, drawn in by a bit of double bass, samba-ed a-la-Santana and brought down low into the groove. Not too shabby then.
