Quite a 'big' album this. Written mostly by Gloria and Paul, with contributions from Khanya Ceza, Steve Dyer and McCoy Mrubata. Performed by some of the big guns in the SA jazz circles, the humble Louis Mhlanga on guitar and Rob Watson on drums being two of the really important choices that I can hear - their contributions adding something beyond the ordinary. Personally I can't bare the direction of the more mainstream pieces - I just can't see past the big American influences of Randy Crawford and Whitney on the tracks written in English. 'Remembering Thami Mnyele' and 'Mazwi Angu' are so much better - sounding way more original and inspired in Gloria's mother tongue, great string arrangement on the former too. Fantastic playing and production.
