* - it seems we managed to get the listing of track's 8 + 9 on the 'chop sui' side of the benguela album wrong - track 8 should be rovertman and 9 should be captain asthma - huge apologies to both - we will correct the mistake by the second pressing. how embarrassing.

the 6 original live tracks were recorded in front of 30 friends (and later mixed) at sui studios, cape town on 08/02/02 by dirk hugo assisted by ramon dasilva. the set was completely improvised, and is presented as it happened with only a couple of small edits on tracks 5 and 6.

PRESS QUOTES:
"a double album of rhythmic rebelliousness that scratches and jitters its way across your consciousness, combining the off-the-cuff improvisational textures of jazz with scintillating layers of fuzzy guitar, deep bass and metronomic percussion. it’s the most darkly atmospheric release of last year and this writer’s pick for album of 2003."
- jon craig canavan - this day 16/01/04

hiene found us. we're not sure from where, but we're glad he did. his mix is beautifully paced and understated, completely in tune with the source material and opening up benguela's trance leanings of late. he's been into music production since 1999 on projects including 'transmissie' (1999) - a multimedia event in which afrikaans cultural history was fused with trance music, 'aikonoklasme' (2000) - a project linked to visuals and video footage (in collaboration with justin catita) screened at soft serve at the national gallery and further screenings at the now defunct coffee lounge. he's also been resident dj at the coffee lounge (2000 -2001) and more recently as part of the coma collective at historic hoogwaterhuis at hangklip (www.coma.co.za). mr opperman butters his bread doing food product development consulting (specialising in jam...) and is passionate about organic gardening / energy renewal systems.
